ABOUT THE ARTIST
Garner Chapman began drawing at the age of 10. Her father recognized her
natural ability to draw and encouraged her to create. A Columbus, Ohio native,
Chapman graduated from an extensive three-year Commercial Arts Program at
Central High School. The Columbus College of Art and Design awarded her a
scholarship based on the merits of the portfolio she created in the Arts
program. Although the artist uses a variety of media in her artistic
expressions, she is known mainly for her artist handmade paper artwork.
Chapman’s work is in distinguished private and corporate collections in the
United States, Great Britain and Japan. The Dial Corporation, the NASA Glenn
Research Center, and the Cleveland Brown's Foundation are among her clients. All
of her creations are visually stimulating and embody life, texture, warmth and
energy. She said her subject matters represent the things in life that have
shaped her inner spirit and live within her memories. Therefore, Chapman has an
endless range of creativity. Her works include one-of-a-kind handcrafted African
masks, acrylics with paper, handcrafted art plates, handmade jewelry and
interior design. Her masks are unique and are sought after by collectors. “The
art that I create is a statement of my minds eye,” she said. “I believe my
ability to create artwork is a God-given gift. This gift is my rest...it is my
peace...and gives me great joy.” The most profound aspect of Chapman’s work is
her ability to bring out the beauty in everything.
